Group Rides

The following rides are regularly attended by 545 Velo members.  Rides are generally open, though leave promptly at the stated times.  These training rides are the best way to learn more about our team and meet the racers – come on out and introduce yourself!

Wednesday – Arlington Hills

Start: 5:30am at Newton City Hall, 5:45am at Belmont Shaw’s

Runs from beginning of April through the end of September.  This is our most challenging ride, but is fairly accommodating due to the regrouping at the top of the hills.  We attack the Park Avenue water tower from practically every direction, including the now-infamous “School/Robbins Double”.  This ride attracts some elite climbers in the summer, and every hill is hotly contested.  Browse the top 20 finishers for the Mt. Washington Hill Climb and you’ll see a few of the guys you’ll be chasing if you join us on this route.  Show up warm as the action hits soon after rolling out of the parking lot.

MMR route can be found here, though the route is sometimes revised on the road.

Tuesday/Thursday – Cutler Park

Start: 5:45am at Cutler Park in Newton

Join us for a high-paced 24 miles through Dover to start your morning strong.  This is not a true 545 Velo ride, as it encompasses the “A” group from the reoccuring Crack O Dawn T-Th ride.

Monday/Friday – Piano Ride

Start: 5:30am at Waban Starbucks

Unwind with some easy miles on Monday to loosen up tired legs from Sunday racing, and the same goes on Friday so you can stay fresh before the weekend competition hits.  Pace is 16mph for full recovery; catch up with your teammates on this conversational and social ride.  Fixed gear welcome as this one is slow and steady for about 25 miles.
